Important Dates to Remember
The Get Covered NJ Marketplace helps uninsured people get health coverage. You can generally only Marketplace health insurance during the yearly Open Enrollment Period unless you qualify for Special Enrollment. There are things you can do to start getting ready before Open Enrollment and some upcoming key dates you should mark on your calendar.
November 1, 2020 – Open Enrollment Starts for 2021
January 31, 2020 – Open Enrollment Ends for 2021
Open Enrollment Information
January 31 is when Open Enrollment ends but some individuals may qualify for Special Enrollment Period (SEP). You qualify for a SEP if you’ve had certain life events, including losing health coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child. If you qualify for an SEP, you usually have up to 60 days following the event to enroll in a plan. If you miss that window, you have to wait until the next Open Enrollment Period to apply. You can enroll in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) any time of year, whether you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period or not.
